York Road
York Road is a small stretch of road in the town centre that follows the line of the old town wall from Abington Square to Cheyne Walk. It forms part of the St Giles conservation area and has an interesting mix of nineteenth century terraced houses. It includes Victoria Terrace which backs onto Saint Giles churchyard (note that the Post Office no longer recognises its existence) and consists of a terrace of rustic cottages from around 1830-40> Victoria Terrace looked over cherry orchards when built.
A walk along York Road also allows views of the General Hospital and the former Savoy Cinema, as well as the whitewashed grace of Spencer Parade.
